Founded in Homestead, Pennsylvania as a semi-pro team of steelworkers, the Grays quickly outgrew their small town. They would ultimately split time between neighboring Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. in order to accommodate the large crowds they often drew, During their fifty years of existence, they were one of one of the most popular and successful clubs in the Negro Leagues. Powered by all-time greats like Cool Papa Bell and Josh Gibson, the club won 11 league titles and three Negro World Series.
