The Newark Eagles came to be as the result of the merger between two teams in the Negro National League; the Newark Dodgers and Brooklyn Eagles. The result was a legendary powerhouse that would feature 7 hall of famers and future Cy Young award winner Don Newcombe. Co-owner Effa Manley managed day to day operations and became the first and (to date) only woman inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In later years, the team moved to Houston and became the Houston Eagles.
