The Newark Eagles were the were formed by a merger between two teams in the Negro National League; the Newark Dodgers and Brooklyn Eagles. The result was a legendary powerhouse that would feature seven hall of famers and future Cy Young award winner Don Newcombe. Co-owner Effa Manley managed day to day operations and became the first and (to date) only woman inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The team moved to Houston and became the Houston Eagles in 1949.
