The original Philadelphia Stars were the premier team in the , playing in all three of the league's championship games, winning two. They were coached by Jim Mora who had such a dominant team, many believed it could have competed in the established league. The Stars were beloved in Philadelphia, but the USFL's plan to move to a fall schedule for 1986 led the team to move to Baltimore, then recently abandoned by the Colts, rather than compete with the Eagles. The team was renamed the Baltimore Stars. The baseball Orioles blocked the Stars from using Memorial Stadium, forcing the club to play at the University of Maryland, 40 miles, and an hour drive, from Baltimore. Despite a difficult travel situation, the team won the last USFL championship. In 2022, the team name was revived for the new USFL, however the club was not included in the merger with the new XFL that formed the UFL.
