Team: The Pilots
Years Active: 1969
Stadium: Sick's Stadium (Seattle, WA)

The Pilots were originally to begin play until 1971. However, Missouri Senator William Symington insisted the new Royals, established to replace the city's departed A's, who left after the 1968 season, take the field in 1969. To keep the number of teams even, the league acquiesced, forcing the Pilots to do the same. The early start proved to be a disaster as Sick's Stadium was barely equipped for a minor league team, let alone the Pilots. The team struggled on the field and was at the bottom of the league in attendance. It became clear the team could not continue under those conditions while waiting for a new stadium to be built. In 1970, the ownership group declared bankruptcy and the team was sold after just one season to a group from Milwaukee.
