The St Louis Giants were one of the earliest and most successful independent teams in baseball. The high point was a 7 game exhibition series against the St Louis Cardinals in 1921. The following season, the Giants were purchased by new ownership, marking the beginning of the Negro Leagues as many know them today. The team was renamed the Stars and joined the first iteration of the Negro National League with a newly built stadium. With multiple hall of famers, the Stars won 3 championships in the final 4 years before the league folded.
